The hospital also has access to one of the state’s few pediatric cardiologists. If a young patient requires complex surgical or catheter-based interventions, the pediatric cardiologist has a strong link to Seattle Children’s hospital.
In the Emergency Department, CMC has a team of dedicated doctors and nurses who follow a child-friendly approach when working with young patients. Twenty-four hours a day, they care for everything from small cuts to major traumas. If a child doesn’t require emergency treatment, they will be seen and treated in First Care (our urgent care facility), which minimizes a child’s exposure to the hustle and bustle of a busy emergency department.
CMC also provides a full range of gastroenterology services, including PH probes and upper and lower endoscopy of even the smallest patients. Diagnostic Imaging provides a variety of studies and scans with the most up-to-date equipment. That department also can sedate or anesthetize a frightened child if necessary.
For the unborn patients, there’s a perinatologist (a maternal/fetal medicine specialist) who’s trained to diagnose abnormalities or disturbances of intra-uterine life and manage a mother and fetus. When an abnormality is diagnosed, the appropriate team – the neonatologist, surgical specialist, social worker, etc. – becomes involved. Along with treating the child, the new team ensures parents are as well prepared as possible for the birth and care of their new baby.
