Genetic Counselling

Genetic Counselling
Genetic Counseling:
If you are at increased risk for having a child with a genetic (such as cystic fibrosis or muscular dystrophy) or chromosomal (such as Down syndrome) disorder, you may be referred to Rocky Mountain Perinatal Associates for genetic counseling.  This counseling will include a discussion of how likely it is that your baby could have the disorder in question; a discussion of the types of problems that your baby might have if affected; as well as what types of tests can help you determine whether or not your baby has the problem for which he or she is at risk.  If there is testing available, for example by amniocentesis or chorionic villous sampling, in many cases it can be performed during your visit to the office.  All of these options will be discussed with you during counselling.
