Information for Referring Physicians

Rocky Mountain Perinatal Associates (RMPA) was established in January, 2006 at Community Medical Center in Missoula, Montana to provide physicians in Western Montana with full consultative support for their patients with high-risk pregnancies.

Dr. Gregory Utter is the Medical Director and perinatologist at RMPA.  His residency training was at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan, and fellowship was at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago.  He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, with subspecialty board certification in maternal-fetal medicine. Dr. Utter practiced at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit for 15 years, until moving to Missoula.  Dr Utter established the Perinatology Division at St. John Hospital and Medical Center, and at the time of his departure for Montana, his division was comprised of four perinatologists and six full-time sonographers, performing approximately 12,000 obstetrical ultrasounds each year.

Our outpatient services, delineated elsewhere on this website, include detailed sonography for both routine and high-risk pregnancies; amniocentesis; chorionic villous sampling; first-trimester trisomy 13/18/21 screening using nuchal translucency/PAPP-A/free beta hCG; cordocentesis/intrauterine transfusion; and preconceptual/prenatal consultations for medical or other complications of pregnancy. Rocky Mountain Perinatal Associates is a consultative practice, and accepts patients for ongoing prenatal care only by referral from their primary obstetrical caregiver.

Dr. Utter also accepts hospital to hospital transport to Community Medical Center of high risk inpatients.  Transports are via helicopter, fixed wing aircraft, or ground ambulance, depending on the clinical circumstances. Community Medical Center has the region’s only level 3 neonatal intensive care unit and has 24 hour neonatology coverage.  CMC also has the only pediatric surgeon in Montana on staff.
