Prenatal Consultations

Prenatal Consultations

A prenatal consult is a consultation that occurs during pregnancy to discuss any complications or potential complication that might happen during your pregnancy.  This could include complications that happened with a prior pregnancy, to discuss recurrence risks; medical problems that you have or may have arisen during the pregnancy; pregnancy complications such as vaginal bleeding or concerns regarding the baby’s growth or well-being; abnormal blood test results, etc.

During this consultation, a complete medical history will be obtained and, when appropriate, a physical exam or ultrasound may be performed.  Dr. Utter will then explain his recommendations for giving you the best chance at a successful pregnancy outcome.  A letter outlining these plans and recommendations will also be sent to your obstetrical caregiver and Dr. Utter will continue to work with your obstetrical caregiver as necessary until you deliver.  In cases of extreme high risk, your caregiver may request that your care be transferred to Rocky Mountain Perinatal Associates for complete care and delivery, though this is usually not necessary.
