Paige Martello, RN, Honored with DAISY Award

Community Medical Center is proud to recognize Paige Martello, RN, of our Med/Surg unit was recently recognized as a DAISY Award recipient — a national honor celebrating nurses for extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care.

Paige was nominated by a fellow nurse who saw her compassion firsthand during a night shift a few months ago.

A comfort care patient with little family nearby grew restless and frightened as she neared the end of her life. Paige, who was precepting a new nurse that night, sat at the patient's bedside holding her hand as the patient leaned into her for comfort.

Together with the nurse she was mentoring and a CNA, Paige helped bring a calm, steady presence to the room during one of life's most vulnerable moments. The patient eventually settled and fell asleep, still holding Paige's hand.

In her nomination, the coworker called it a sacred moment — and shared that after nearly eight years of nursing, Paige gave her renewed hope in the compassion and empathy of nursing's next generation.
